30. homemade souviners

I try to collect items from nature when possible for homemade souviners to be made. We have collected shells from beaches. When we returned home my son only 3 at time made paperweights by placing the shells into colored plaster. By 4 we had him making, painting and putting shells and photos into picture frames. This year we are going to attempt jewelry from rocks that he panned for and have put through a rock tumbler.

22. Art Education in Schools

I believe that art education should always be in schools. It is just important to the developing mind as P.E. is to the developing body. Art gives an outlet for expression of feelings that are not allowed verbally or physically in schools. If more kids were encouraged to put their feelings into works of art one could tell if they were in a happy place or sad place. I think it could really prevent alot of depression in children and adults. They would have a way to express themselves.

29. christmas

Christmas is another time of year when even those that don't think of themselves as artist show their true colors. We have those that do so in planning meals, baking special desserts, putting up decorations, even if it's just a tree. How they decorate can tell you alot about the person.

28. college football

Well the season is over now. My family are GA Bulldog supporters. I guess after so many years of school and working for them they have your heart and money too. Even if they don't do well. I can also see where football is an art. But I see it as art with skill. If you lack to skill the art will never be known. There is one guy at all the games that sits near us. I will try to locate his picture. People decorate cars, homes, and themselves to support their favorite teams.

27. Cakes

Here is a collection of Cakes that I made for my son's birthdays.

Copyright laws

Due to so many copyright laws many photos I found were not to be used even by students. Therefore, I decided to use as many references to items that were created by me or my friends and family.

3. Interview with an Artist

My interview was with my son. He is already an artist but not famous - yet. He wants to be an architect some day. He discusses with me the frustrations and disappointments when his work does not turn out the way he wants it to. Or maybe it does, but the one he's trying to impress with it doesn't think so. I've tried to tell him that unfortunately many artist are not recognized until after their death. Many are ahead of their time.

15. My favorite artist

My favorite artist is as mentioned before-my son, Atticus Leithner. He is very talented for a 9 yr old. He inspires me artisticially, and I do all I can to encourage him. I am not much of a history person. So even though, I have heard and seen works of art by the many artists we have reviewed, researched and created during this semester, my favorite will always be my son, unless he gives up his ambition. Which I really hope he does not. I have many small items sculpted from model magic clay from the time he was probably 3. I am posting some of his most resent dioramas and posters he has done for school this year.

16. I love this piece of architecture because....

I fell in love with:
Fallingwater is the name of a very special house that is built over a waterfall. Frank Lloyd Wright, America’s most famous architect, designed the house for his clients, the Kaufmann family. Fallingwater was built between 1936 and 1939. It instantly became famous, and today it is a National Historic Landmark.

17._______________is a culture because.

I think of Gangs as being a culture. Kids now days are brought up with all these things in their minds. We have groups of people all around us but your typical "Gang" is sterotyped as doing illegal activity. With my defination of culture anyone who grows up around and accepting the life of those in gangs are indeed part of that type culture.

18. On the Graffiti Beat-is it art or not?

Graffiti can indeed be art. It can also be vandalism. It again goes with the concepts of Nude vs Naked. If graffiti is welcomed and done in good taste then I consider it to be art. Otherwise it is just an eye sore and decreases the value of property. One must want this type art in their area in order for it to be appreciated.

19. Public art

The term public art properly refers to works of art in any media that has been planned and executed with the specific intention of being sited or staged in the physical public domain, usually outside and accessible to all. I like to think that it would be a permanent display. But even the horse outside the High Museum is public art. You don't have to buy a ticket to see it. I think of Stone Mountain as a public work of art. Until some form of explosion, natural disaster or erosion takes it away, it will always be there.

20. Interview with a curator.

I spoke with a couple of local curators in Douglasville. Two were from the Cultrual Arts Museum in Douglasville. They really seem to enjoy their work. They love all forms of art. They see many different types from many different artists come and go. They enjoy taking care of and telling people about the works and how they to can become an artist with works displayed in a gallery. This museum inparticular offers contests and classes for it's local schools.

23. I know what art is

Art can and is everything. Some people are narrow minded though. They don't see the beauty in even the gross looking works of art. Objects, paintings, songs, photos, sculputres, poems, etc. are all works of art. There seems to be an infinate list, or at least one too big for me to list. People don't realize that even designing a webpage, a logo, toys, fonts and even a style of writing is art. The things that are produced come from someones mind. Right or Left brain will depend on what they are feeling at the time or the feeling they want to get across. I think the best works of art are from people that can relate to what they are trying to depict in a piece of art.

24. Art in Film

I'm thinking "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". The lips used in this movie are recognized anywhere. That is if you had the pleasure of seeing this classic. Yes I say classic. It's been around for a while. This was a musical, play and film. I found out the first time I saw it that if any one knew you had not seen it before that you were introduced to the entire audience as a "Virgin". After that first visit you were prepared. The audience acts out the film. You get wet with rain from water guns, you better remember you news paper. It is a fun experience, everyone should go atleast once.

25. Artists in society

I think that everyone has an artist inside. Does society shape our artists or do the artists shape society. As I have stated before, many well known artist are not appreciated or recognized as artists until after their death. Some may have one piece of work that stands out to many people. Then those people go and look or other works by that artist. If more people would view work with an open mind and not try to stay "inside the box" imagine what the world would be today. Society just doesn't show enough appreciation to those that design or create unique masterpieces. Artists have the ability to conform to society or they can create society.

14. Poetry Slam

I'm not that much into poetry. Most song lyrics are considered to be poetry. Unfortunately now days when I think of poetry in song lyrics I think of rap. I myself cannot stand rap. I love the ballads. Robert Frost was the main poet that I remember from childhood. But, if we think of all the nursery rhymes and childrens toons they are all very good poetry. So I can only slam that, that is set to rap music.

13. My right brain, my left brain.

I like being left brain. Above are photos that appeal to me. These are calming and ordinary. The right brain seems to be more caiotic. Not thought trough.

12. My photographic eye.

I took pictures of my pets. I tried closeups of heads and eyes.

11. Fashion as art

Most people would think of Fashion as being art if it is a name brand items that costs lots of money and is everywhere. I think of it as sometimes the Retro Look. Cyndi Lauper is an artist that not only created art through music and video. But she also did a great deal with fashion. She wore what she wanted and it still looked good. Fashion as an art form can come from many angles. Some even used items that some would throw away as trash. She could make anything look and fit the the part that she wanted.

10. This music video is a true work of art.

I love the music video Thriller by Michael Jackson. I always loved it, yes as a child. But now that he is gone it is coming back to life. I have seen many local schools doing tributes by recreating the video. I'm glad that this is something from my past that has been revived. I tried looking for the news links where these schools were highlighted but did not find them. Guess I should have written them down :(

9. Dance

Here is a dance to welcome us to ST. Thomas Island, I believe. The native people were there encouraging us to join in a native dance.

8. Art on YOU TUBE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDZs__m5iAI

Ok this is not what many people look at on YouTube or at least not people I know. This is what I found and approve of. I would love to have a Latte that looks like that.

6. Find something that represnts human nature in an art form.

Human nature to me is something that brings out emotions in people. It can be babies, animals, violence, tragedy, war, etc. Again, I use some of the pictures I have already used or our group has. But they do mean so much.

5. Find something that represents human condition in an art form.

From my reading human condition includes everything in being human. From birth until death and everything in the middle.
